Welcome to Spera
Spera is located on the southern side of the Lagorai mountain range, on a morainic terrace with panoramic views of Valsugana. The town is known for both its woodworking and its chestnuts, which it already exported to Austria at the beginning of the 20th century. Spera is one of the main gateways of discovery from which visitors can explore this striking, unblemished landscape at the foot of the Lagorai mountain range. During the Christmas period, countless people actively contribute to Spera’s nativity scenes and countless more come to admire them each year.More than 38 families decorate their homes with nativity scenes during the Christmas season.
Each family provides their own interpretation of this, with small nativity scenes featuring a few simple statues, or enormous, detailed reconstructions complete with mechanised elements, light features and sound effects. The settings differ wildly, from those who use a corner of their garden, or a cellar window, to those who prefer a window-ledge, a tree trunk, an old tub or even an entire garage. All of the nativity scenes in town remain on display until the beginning of February, with the local Tourist Association guiding visitors on tours to admire them and get to know the families who set them up.
